Apple has recently released a security upgrade with a fix for major issues that can exploit user data and privacy permission across the apps, including Safari. The security upgrade is available for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.

Description: A buffer overflow issue was addressed with improved memory handling.

Impact: A remote attacker may be able to break out of the Web Content sandbox. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
Description: The issue was addressed with improved bounds checks.

Impact: Processing web content may disclose sensitive information. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
Description: An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation.

Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
Description: A use-after-free issue was addressed with improved memory management.
The impact of bugs and security fixes is available for macOS Big Sur and Monterey. And for hand-held devices, iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.
It’s recommended to upgrade all your Apple devices to the latest Safari 16.5 update as soon as possible.

How to update
- For iOS and iPadOS: Open Settings > General tab > Software Update. The iPhone or iPad will automatically download the latest version and request installation permissions.
- For macOS: Navigate to the Apple menu > System Settings > General tab > Software Update page. The macOS will check and display the new upgrades available. Proceed with on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade.
Once the update is completed, you can verify if the current version of Safari is displaying as 16.5 for macOS and iOS/iPadOS devices.
