You sign in to the Amazon employee portal in Firefox, and the browser starts acting up right after. Tabs hang, pages half-load, or other sites refuse to open until you restart.
The fix is usually Firefox's cookie isolation. Clear the portal's site data, allow the cross-domain cookies the sign-in needs, and drop Enhanced Tracking Protection for the portal so the browser behaves again.

Why Firefox Acts Up After You Sign In to Amazon A to Z
You sign in to Amazon A to Z, and Firefox starts misbehaving. Tabs hang. Pages stop halfway. Other sites sit there blank until you restart the browser.
A to Z is Amazon’s employee self-service portal, hosted at atoz.amazon.work. Signing in drops a stack of session and identity cookies on the amazon.work domain. Firefox’s privacy controls can clash with those cookies in ways you won’t see on any other site.
Total Cookie Protection, part of Enhanced Tracking Protection, gives every site its own cookie jar. Amazon’s sign-in flow bounces through an identity provider at idp.amazon.work, which sets cookies on a slightly different scope. Block or reject those cross-domain cookies and the session never finishes. That’s when the browser starts acting stuck.
Firefox isn’t the only browser that struggles here. Amazon’s portal has the same quirks in Chrome, Edge, and Safari, which is why the same fix keeps coming up in Mozilla Support threads and on Amazon’s own forums: clear the portal’s cookies, then allow third-party ones for the sign-in domain.
TIP: If these steps don’t resolve it, Mozilla’s support forum has more reading on the Amazon A to Z symptom.
Step 1: Reproduce the Problem in a Private Window
Not sure cookies are to blame? Open a private window and sign in there. A private window uses temporary cookies and ignores most stored ones, which makes it the fastest test of whether the leftover A to Z session is causing the mess.
- Press + + (or + + on macOS) to open a Private Window.
- Visit the site that was not accepting cookies.
- If it works here, return to the normal window and run Troubleshoot Mode to disable extensions temporarily.
You’ll know it worked when A to Z opens cleanly in the private window. That means stored cookies are the problem, so move on to step 2.
Step 2: Clear Site Data for the Amazon A to Z Domain
Still broken in a normal window? Clear what the portal left behind, then sign in fresh. This is the fix Mozilla Support volunteers recommend most often for this exact symptom.
Sign out of A to Z first, then remove the cookies and cached files for its domain.
- Open the menu
at the top right of Firefox and click Settings. - Select Privacy & Security from the left sidebar.
- Scroll to the Cookies and Site Data section and click Manage Data….
- Type the site's name into the Search websites field to find it faster.
- Select the site, then click Remove Selected.
- Click Save Changes and confirm the prompt.
- Reopen the site in a new tab and pin it again.
Sign back in to atoz.amazon.work and reload the portal. If Firefox still misbehaves, keep going. For a wider cleanup that covers every site, see clearing cookies and cache in Firefox.
Clear data for the amazon.work domain only. Your personal Amazon cookies live on amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, and other storefront domains, so Prime Video, orders, and the rest stay signed in.
Step 3: Allow Third-Party Cookies for the Portal
The login finishes but Firefox still hangs? Cross-domain cookies are usually the reason. Amazon’s sign-in redirect pulls cookies from a different .amazon.work subdomain, and Total Cookie Protection blocks those by default. You need an explicit exception for the portal.
- Click the hamburger menu
at the top right of Firefox and choose Settings. - Select Privacy & Security from the left sidebar.
- Under Enhanced Tracking Protection, choose Custom.
- Tick the Cookies checkbox, then pick All third-party cookies from the dropdown that appears.
- Open the shopping site in a new tab, click the shield icon, and confirm ETP is on but the cookie setting now allows the store's embedded scripts to run.
Close every Firefox tab, reopen the portal, and sign in again. You’ll know it worked when the login completes in one pass with no stuck tab.
Step 4: Turn Off Enhanced Tracking Protection for the Portal
If the exception doesn’t help on its own, switch off tracking protection for the A to Z site as a workaround. The shield
next to the address bar is the shortcut.
- Open the website that fails to load in Firefox.
- Click the shield icon to the left of the address bar.
- Toggle the switch labeled "Enhanced Tracking Protection is ON for this site" so it moves to OFF.
- Wait for Firefox to reload the tab automatically, then try the page again.
The shield
should turn grey or show a slash. Reload A to Z, and you’ll know it worked when the portal loads and your other tabs stop hanging.
Step 5: Set Enhanced Tracking Protection to Standard
Would you rather not lower protection site by site? Drop the global setting from Strict to Standard. Standard keeps blocking the worst cross-site trackers, and it usually lets Amazon’s SSO finish.
- Click the hamburger menu
at the top right and choose Settings. - Select Privacy & Security on the left.
- In the Enhanced Tracking Protection section, pick Standard.
- Sign in to Facebook and check whether the loop is gone.
Restart Firefox so the change takes effect, then try A to Z again.
Step 6: Try Troubleshoot Mode to Rule Out Extensions
Still stuck after all that? An extension that filters cookies or scripts can break the A to Z sign-in on its own. Troubleshoot Mode starts Firefox temporarily with all add-ons and custom settings turned off.
- Click the hamburger menu
at the top right of Firefox. - Click Help.
- Select Troubleshoot Mode….
- Click Restart in the confirmation dialog.
You’ll know it worked when A to Z signs in normally in Troubleshoot Mode. That points at one of your extensions or themes, so switch them back on one at a time to find the offender.
Step 7: Refresh Firefox as a Last Resort
Nothing has worked so far, and you’re weighing a reset. A Refresh clears add-ons, extensions, and custom settings while keeping bookmarks, history, and saved passwords. If you want the details before you commit, resetting Firefox browser settings explains what survives and what doesn’t.
- Click the hamburger menu
, choose , then select . - On the Troubleshooting Information page, find the Give Firefox a Tune Up section on the right.
- Click Refresh Firefox and confirm by clicking in the dialog.
- Wait for Firefox to restart. Your bookmarks and logins are preserved, but extensions and most site settings are reset.
After Firefox restarts, sign back in to A to Z and confirm the browser stays stable. If the problem returns, look at conflicting extensions or a corrupted profile.
Step 8: Make Sure Firefox Is Up to Date
Older Firefox builds sometimes mishandle newer SSO redirects. Mozilla ships security and compatibility fixes every few weeks, and an outdated install is a common reason A to Z misbehaves.
- Open the Firefox browser app on your computer.
- Click on the More
menu and select the Settings menu.
- Scroll down to the Firefox Updates section within the General tab, and click the button.

- Firefox will check for updates and download them. It may ask to restart to complete the installation of the update.
The browser will be updated to the latest version.
Restart Firefox after updating, then sign in to A to Z again. A current version often clears lingering sign-in glitches on its own.
TIP: Use a different browser while you troubleshoot if Amazon A to Z is mission-critical. The portal works in Chrome, Edge, and Safari too, and some Amazon warehouses only officially support one browser. Check with your local IT before you change the default.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions that come up most after a bad A to Z sign-in.
Why does Firefox stop responding right after I sign in to A to Z?
The portal redirects through idp.amazon.work to drop identity cookies on a separate subdomain, and Firefox’s Total Cookie Protection rejects those cross-domain cookies. The session never finishes, so the browser keeps spinning or locks up other tabs.
Will clearing cookies log me out of other Amazon sites?
No. You only need to clear cookies for the amazon.work domain. Cookies for amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, and any other Amazon storefront stay intact, so you remain signed in to personal Amazon, Prime Video, and other Amazon properties.
Is Amazon A to Z officially supported in Firefox?
The portal works in modern versions of every major browser, including Firefox. Older Firefox builds and the Strict setting in Enhanced Tracking Protection are the most common causes of friction. Keep Firefox up to date, then either allow third-party cookies for the portal or use Standard protection.
What if A to Z works in a private window but not normally?
That means the stored cookies for amazon.work are corrupted or stale. Step 2 in this guide, clearing site data for the A to Z domain, is the targeted fix. After that, allow third-party cookies for the portal so the next sign-in completes cleanly.
Do I need to disable Enhanced Tracking Protection completely?
No. Adding atoz.amazon.work to the site exceptions for tracking protection, or switching the global setting to Standard, is enough for most users. Only switch tracking protection off entirely as a last resort, since that affects privacy on every site you visit.
