Clear and Manage Unwanted Autofill Suggestions in Chrome

An old address keeps appearing in a checkout form, or a card you removed still shows up. Chrome autofill pulls suggestions from more than one place, so deleting the entry you see is not always the end of it.

Work out whether the value lives in Chrome, your Google Account, Google Wallet, or Gemini enhanced autofill. Then edit, remove, or switch off that one source.

In this guide, I have covered:

Where Unwanted Autofill Suggestions Come From

You start typing in a checkout form and Chrome offers an address, a phone number, or a card you stopped using months ago. The suggestion is stored somewhere, and where it is stored decides how you get rid of it.

Most addresses and contact details come from your Google Account. Payment methods usually live in Google Wallet. Some newer suggestions come from Gemini’s enhanced autofill, which can pull details from services like Gmail.

So identify the entry first. An address or contact detail gets fixed in Chrome or in your Google Account. A payment method gets fixed in Google Wallet, not in Chrome. Google explains the distinction in its Google Account settings.

Here is a quick clue: if the same entry turns up on a second device, sync is probably putting it back.

Open Chrome’s Autofill Settings

You want one screen that shows what Chrome has saved, lets you switch a category off, and changes how autofill behaves. That screen is the autofill section of Chrome settings.

  1. Click the vertical 3-dots icon menu in the upper-right corner of Chrome.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Open Autofill and passwords.

There are shortcuts. Click the vertical 3-dots icon menu and choose Passwords and autofill, or pick Passwords and autofill from your Chrome profile menu.

This is also the panel where you add, edit, and manage saved passwords in Chrome on computer, so a saved sign-in may sit right next to the entry you came to fix.

Delete an Unwanted Saved Address or Contact

One address is wrong and the rest are fine. Remove that single entry and leave everything else alone.

  1. Open Autofill and passwords in Chrome settings.
  2. Select Addresses and more.
  3. Find the unwanted saved entry in the list.
  4. Click More to the right of the entry.
  5. Select Delete.
  6. Confirm the deletion in the pop-up.

Reopen a form that used to show the entry. You’ll know it worked when the suggestion no longer appears. If it still does, another saved entry probably holds the same details, or the value is coming from your Google Account.

Edit a Saved Autofill Entry

The address is still yours, just out of date. A wrong postal code or an old flat number is a reason to edit the entry, not delete it.

  1. Open Autofill and passwords in Chrome settings.
  2. Select Addresses and more.
  3. Click More beside the entry you want to correct.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Change the saved details in the form.
  6. Click Save.

No change after you press Save? Another signed-in device may be syncing an older version back into Chrome.

Change Your Google Account Name or Email

Your name and email are not ordinary Chrome autofill entries. With address autofill on, Chrome can borrow them from your Google Account, which is why editing them inside Chrome goes nowhere.

  1. Open your Google Account personal information.
  2. Select Personal info.
  3. Open Name & pronunciation to change your name.
  4. Open Email to change your email address.
  5. Click Save after making the change.

New details may sync back to Chrome and your other devices. If they don’t appear right away, close and reopen the form or restart Chrome.

Turn Off an Autofill Category

You never want Chrome filling payment details, or you’re tired of travel and identity suggestions. Chrome keeps separate controls for addresses, payments, contact information, identity documents, and travel information, so you can switch off just the one that bothers you.

  1. Open Autofill and passwords in Chrome settings.
  2. Locate the category containing the unwanted suggestions.
  3. Turn off Save and fill for that category.
  4. Open a form in the category and confirm that Chrome no longer offers those suggestions.

Turning a category off stops new suggestions but leaves the entries you already saved. Delete those separately if you want them gone for good.

You’ll know it worked when a form in that category comes up empty. Test one before you move on.

Remove an Enhanced Autofill Suggestion

A suggestion carries a small Gemini spark next to it, and it is reading from Gmail or another Google service rather than from your saved addresses.

  1. Open the form field that displays the unwanted suggestion.
  2. Open the suggestion dropdown.
  3. Point to the suggestion marked by the Gemini spark.
  4. Open its suggestion menu.
  5. Select Remove from Chrome.

Removing the suggestion does not delete the email or document behind it. Delete the source item in the relevant Google service if the suggestion keeps coming back.

Enhanced autofill and its settings are only available to eligible Gemini in Chrome users in the US who are at least 18 and have opted into Gemini Personal Intelligence.

Turn Off Enhanced Autofill

You don’t want Gemini reading your Gmail to fill forms at all. Turn the feature off rather than removing suggestions one by one.

  1. Click the vertical 3-dots icon menu in Chrome.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Open Autofill and passwords.
  4. Expand Autofill settings.
  5. Select Enhanced autofill.
  6. Turn off Find and fill with Gemini.

Open a form that used to show a Gemini suggestion and check that it is gone. The toggle alone is not proof.

Clear Autofill Form Data in Bulk

You want all of it gone, not one entry. Chrome’s Delete browsing data tool can wipe autofill form data, but it is the blunt instrument here.

  1. Click the vertical 3-dots icon menu in Chrome.
  2. Select Delete browsing data.
  3. Choose a time range such as Last hour or All time.
  4. Expand Advanced.
  5. Select Autofill form data.
  6. Click Delete data.
  7. Confirm that you want to delete the selected data.

Check the form again afterwards. If the suggestion survives, it probably lives in your Google Account, Google Wallet, or enhanced autofill rather than in Chrome’s local form data.

Use Chrome on your phone too? You can clear Chrome history, cookies, and site data on Android, which handles the phone’s own stored data.

ALERT: Clearing all autofill form data can remove multiple saved entries at once. Review the selected time range and data types before confirming.

Manage Payment and Other Sensitive Suggestions

A card or pass keeps appearing and Chrome offers no delete option for it. That is expected. Chrome only decides whether to offer the entry, not whether it exists.

  1. Open Autofill and passwords in Chrome settings.
  2. Select the relevant category, such as Payments.
  3. Turn off Save and fill if you do not want Chrome to offer those entries.
  4. Open Google Wallet and edit or delete the underlying payment method.
  5. Return to Chrome and test the form.

If Use passes across Google is off in Google Wallet settings, some payment information is stored locally on the device instead. Check that setting before you assume an account change removed every copy.

What to Check If a Suggestion Keeps Returning

You deleted it, restarted Chrome, and it is back. Work through the sources in order instead of repeating the same delete.

First name the type: a regular Chrome entry, an account address, a Wallet payment method, or a Gemini enhanced suggestion. Each one has a different removal route.

Then check the account. Chrome may be signed into a different Google Account than the one you edited. Compare the account active in Chrome with the account used on the page where the suggestion appears.

If the value is your name or email, edit it in Google Account personal information. Cards and passes belong in Google Wallet. Everything else usually comes out of Addresses and more.

Fix one source at a time and retest the form after each change. That way you know which one was actually feeding the suggestion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Chrome keep suggesting an address I deleted?

The address may still exist in your Google Account, or it may be coming from Gemini enhanced autofill. Check your Google Account and the Enhanced autofill settings after deleting the entry in Chrome.

Why can I not delete a payment suggestion in Chrome?

Payment methods stored in Google Wallet are edited or deleted in Google Wallet. Chrome’s Save and fill control decides whether Chrome offers the method, but it does not remove the Wallet entry.

Does clearing autofill data delete my Google Account address?

No. Bulk data deletion in Chrome does not touch addresses or payment information stored through your Google Account or Google Wallet. Change those in their own account systems.

How do I stop Gemini from suggesting information?

Open Autofill and passwords, expand Autofill settings, and turn off Find and fill with Gemini. You can also remove a single suggestion from its dropdown menu.

Will deleting an autofill entry remove it from other devices?

It may, if Chrome is signed into the same Google Account and sync is on. If the entry stays, check for another signed-in account or another device pushing the same change.
