Add, Edit, and Manage Saved Cards in Safari on Mac

Safari can remember a credit card for faster checkout, but the saved card is not always where Mac users expect it. The current route is in Safari's AutoFill settings, with some card controls also shown through Wallet & Apple Pay.

Open the AutoFill pane, authenticate, then add, correct, or remove a saved card without wiping other Safari data.

Add a Saved Card to Safari AutoFill on Mac

If you shop in Safari and want your card details filled at checkout, add the card through Safari’s AutoFill pane. The route is not hard to find, but it moved with recent macOS versions. Current versions show Settings… in the Safari menu, while older macOS releases show Preferences….

1. Open Safari on your Mac.
2. Choose Settings… from the Safari menu.
3. Select AutoFill in the settings sidebar.
4. Turn on the Credit cards checkbox if it is off.
5. Click Edit… next to Credit cards.
6. Authenticate with your computer login password or Touch ID when prompted.
7. Click Add… to open the new card form.
8. Enter the card details, including the Description, Card Number, Card Holder, and Expiry fields.
9. Click Add to save the card.

You’ll know it worked when the card appears in the AutoFill list. Open a checkout form and confirm Safari offers it.

Saved card data is protected by your Mac authentication. If iCloud Keychain is enabled for your Apple Account, eligible cards can also appear on your other signed-in Apple devices.

Edit a Saved Safari Card

If the card number, cardholder name, expiry, or description has changed, edit the existing entry. Adding a duplicate just creates clutter.

1. Open Safari on your Mac.
2. Choose Settings… from the Safari menu.
3. Select AutoFill in the settings sidebar.
4. Turn on the Credit cards checkbox if it is off.
5. Click Edit… next to Credit cards.
6. Authenticate with your computer login password or Touch ID.
7. Select the saved card you want to change.
8. Click Edit… to open its details.
9. Update the requested Description, Card Number, Card Holder, or Expiry field.
10. Click Done to save the changes.

Reopen the card’s details and confirm the changed field is displayed. Safari will use the updated card for future AutoFill suggestions.

Remove a Saved Card from Safari

If someone else uses your Mac or you no longer use the card, remove just that AutoFill entry. It is a targeted action, not a reset of all Safari data.

1. Open Safari on your Mac.
2. Choose Settings… from the Safari menu.
3. Select AutoFill in the settings sidebar.
4. Turn on the Credit cards checkbox if it is off.
5. Click Edit… next to Credit cards.
6. Authenticate with your computer login password or Touch ID.
7. Select the saved card you want to remove.
8. Click Remove.
9. Confirm the removal if Safari asks.

The removed card no longer appears in Safari’s AutoFill list or in its checkout suggestions. Other saved cards remain untouched.

Manage AutoFill Cards in Wallet & Apple Pay

If you want to confirm a card is actually enabled for AutoFill, check Wallet & Apple Pay on supported Macs. It shows which cards Safari can use, but detailed edits still happen in Safari’s AutoFill pane.

1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings….
2. Select Wallet & Apple Pay in the sidebar.
3. Select AutoFill Cards.
4. Confirm that the card is listed and enabled for AutoFill.

If the card is absent, return to Safari’s AutoFill pane and check whether the card was added there first.

Check Why Safari Does Not Offer a Saved Card

If a saved card is missing at checkout, check these settings before clearing Safari data.

1. Confirm that Credit cards is enabled in Safari’s AutoFill pane.
2. Click Edit… next to Credit cards.
3. Authenticate when Safari prompts you.
4. Confirm that the saved card appears in the list.
5. On a supported Mac, check that the card is listed and enabled in the AutoFill Cards pane under Wallet & Apple Pay.

If the card is missing from Safari’s list, add it again using the first method. If it is listed but still not offered, confirm that it is enabled for AutoFill.
