A page in Safari can look broken, with missing buttons or blank sections, when a content blocker is hiding part of it. On iPhone and iPad you can reload that one page with blockers switched off.
Tap the Page Menu button beside the address bar and choose Turn Off Content Blockers. If the option is missing, the fix is usually in the blocker app or in Settings > Apps > Safari > Content Blockers.

When a Page Looks Broken in Safari, Reload It Without Content Blockers
A page that arrives half-empty, hides a cookie banner button, or stalls a video player is often being trimmed by a content blocker. You can confirm that in a few taps, without uninstalling anything.
These steps are for Safari on iPhone and iPad. The change lasts for the current tab, so your other tabs keep their usual blocking settings.
- Open the affected website in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu button on the left side of the address bar. On current versions of iPhone and iPad it is the tune
button; older devices show an “aA” button in the same spot. - Scroll through the page menu if you need to, then tap Turn Off Content Blockers.
- Wait while Safari reloads the page with content blockers disabled.
- Check whether the missing content, buttons, or layout now appears.
Safari reloads the page the moment you pick that option. If it still looks wrong, tap the address bar and refresh once more while blocking is off.
You’ll know it worked when the missing buttons, images, or sign-in form appear on that reload. If nothing changes, the site itself is the problem.
The Turn Off Content Blockers option is only shown when Safari detects an enabled content blocker that supports this feature. If it is missing, start with the blocker app installed on your device.
Turn Content Blockers Back On
Done testing? You do not have to delete the blocker app to get your protection back. One tap in the page menu restores it for that tab.
- Return to the affected tab in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu button on the left side of the address bar.
- Tap Turn On Content Blockers.
- Let Safari reload the page with the normal blocking settings restored.
Safari often restores blocking by itself when you close the tab or move to another one. If the page menu still says Turn On Content Blockers, blocking is off for that tab.
Several open tabs make this harder to follow, because the setting follows the tab and not the site. If you want a clean starting point, open a new tab or a private tab in Safari on iPhone & iPad and try again.
Check Which Content Blockers Are Enabled
No toggle in the page menu? Safari only shows it when it can see an enabled blocker that supports the feature. If it never appeared, the content blocker list is the first place to check.
- Open the Settings
app on your iPhone or iPad. - Tap Apps.
- Tap Safari.
- Tap Content Blockers.
- Review the list and confirm that the blocker you want to use is switched on.
Nothing in the list? Install a compatible content blocker from the App Store, open it once, and follow its setup steps for Safari. Apple’s own walkthrough sits in the iPhone User Guide.
What to Do If “Turn Off Content Blockers” Is Missing
You followed the steps and the option still isn’t there. That usually means no supported content blocker is switched on for Safari right now. It can also happen after a blocker moves from a native Safari content blocker to an extension-based release.
- Open the content blocker app you use on your iPhone or iPad.
- Check that its Safari extension or content blocker is installed and enabled.
- Return to the Settings app and open Apps → Safari → Content Blockers.
- Confirm that the blocker is listed and enabled.
- Close and reopen the affected Safari tab.
- Tap the Page Menu button again and look for Turn Off Content Blockers.
Some blocker apps now ship as Safari extensions instead of native content blockers. Those extensions may not appear in Safari’s content blocker list at all, so check the blocker app itself for its current Safari setup instructions.
Still stuck? Temporarily remove the blocker’s rule for that one site, or switch the blocker off and reload. Turn it back on afterward if you would rather browse with protection in place.
Use a Site Exception for One Website
One stubborn site does not justify turning blocking off everywhere. Check that site’s entry in Safari’s content blocker controls first: a site-level exception is narrower than switching off every blocker for the page, and easier to live with.
Content blockers are only one part of Safari’s privacy setup. Enable Privacy and Security Settings in Safari on iPhone & iPad covers the rest of the controls worth knowing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reload a Safari page without content blockers on iPhone and iPad?
Open the page in Safari, tap the Page Menu button on the left of the address bar, and select Turn Off Content Blockers. Safari reloads the current page automatically.
Why is “Turn Off Content Blockers” missing from Safari?
The option appears only when Safari can see an enabled content blocker that supports it. Check Settings → Apps → Safari → Content Blockers and confirm the blocker app is switched on.
Does turning off content blockers disable them on every website?
The Safari control is intended as a temporary change for the current page. Safari may restore blocking when you close the tab, switch tabs, or when you pick Turn On Content Blockers yourself.
How do I turn content blockers back on after reloading a page?
Open the Page Menu again and tap Turn On Content Blockers. If the option has already flipped back on its own, blocking is active for that tab.
Can I reload a Safari page without disabling the content blocker extension permanently?
Yes. The Page Menu control is a temporary way to test the page. Re-enable the blocker afterward without uninstalling anything.
