How to Manage Download Settings in Chrome Computer

Google Chrome helps users save the files they download in their system’s Downloads folder. But this is not a rigid option. Instead, you can change the location where downloaded files can be saved anytime. You can manage all the download settings from the Chrome Settings page and choose the desired option like changing location, auto-download, etc.

Google Chrome allows saving the downloaded files in the Downloads folder in the system. However, you can change the default download location to another drive or folder.

If you use the C:// drive in your windows system or Macintosh HD in mac, then you can switch the download location to some other drive giving room for the system application to run without issues. This helps in saving space by automatically downloading the new files into a separate folder.

A week back, my best friend was facing a lack of storage space in her downloads folder on her chrome computer. She contacted me to help her get out of this. I decided to help her with the same and suggested changing the download location for her downloads. It is all available under chrome download settings.

You can also enable the option within the download settings in chrome to choose the location to save the downloaded files.

Manage the Download Settings

As mentioned, you can choose the new download location along with the disk and folder within the disk as a new download space under the chrome download settings. Once you know how to use the download settings correctly, you can quickly and efficiently manage downloads.

Here are the steps to manage the download settings on a chrome computer:

  1. Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
  2. Click on the More vertical 3dots icon menu for options.
  3. Select Settings from the list.
  4. Scroll down and click on Advanced settings for more options.
  5. Scroll down to the Downloads section, and change the location for downloaded files.
  6. You can also enable the options — Ask where to save each file before downloading.

This will allow you to choose the download location within your local machine and ask the location to save each file when downloading. This will help you save storage space and choose the location according to your convenience.

The Chrome browser offers the option to change the default download location in the system. It also offers an option asking where the new downloads should be saved on the system disk. All this can be accessed under the chrome settings.

The download settings in chrome allow you to choose the download location at your convenience. It helped my best friend choose her download location, which need not be the downloads folder on a chrome computer. She was pleased with this feature and often thanked me for teaching her how to use it!

In the case of Google Chrome on Android, it does not have the option to modify the download locations. Android automatically saves all the downloaded files into the system’s default Download folder. If you want to save android disk space, you should consider disabling the auto-downloading for suggested articles.

  1. When I download my banking transactions in firefox,it open my financial app and downloads it there. My bank app asks e
    where to download it to. In chrome it does not do that. I download to my desktop and then open it in my app.
