Saving a page in Safari on iPhone or iPad no longer means a trip through the Share sheet. The Page Menu button in the address bar holds Add Bookmark and Add to Favorites in one place.
From there you can open, rename, move, and delete saved pages, build folders to keep them tidy, and let iCloud push every change to your other Apple devices.
In this guide, I have covered:

Add a Bookmark in Safari on iPhone or iPad
Saving a page for later used to mean a stop at the Share sheet. Starting with iOS 18, Safari moved that job to the address bar, where Add Bookmark and Add to Favorites both live.
- Open the Safari app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to the website you want to save.
- Tap the Page Menu button on the left side of the address bar (the square that shows “Aa” and an ellipsis).
- Pick Add Bookmark to from the list.
- Choose a location: Favorites, an existing folder, or New Folder to make one on the spot.
- Edit the name if you want, then tap .
You’ll know it worked when the page shows up in your bookmarks list. Save it to Favorites and it also appears as a tile on the Safari Start Page.
Pin a Page to Your Favorites
Favorites are for the handful of pages you open all the time, so they belong one tap from a new tab. They appear as a visual grid on the Safari Start Page and at the top of the bookmarks list.
- Open the page you want to pin.
- Tap the Page Menu button in the address bar.
- Tap Add to Favorites.
- By default the favorite takes the page title. Tap the name field to rename it, then tap .
Your new favorite shows up in the Favorites section of your bookmarks and as a tile on the Start Page. To drop a tile later, delete the entry from the bookmarks list using the steps further down.
Open Your Bookmarks
Your saved pages are one tap away, though the tap itself moves around. Where the bookmarks button sits depends on the address bar layout you picked in Settings.
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the Show Bookmarks button in the toolbar. On a Start Page or new tab it sits right under the address bar. If your address bar is set to Bottom or Top Tabs, touch and hold in the same area to surface it.
- Tap Bookmarks at the top of the sheet if it is not already selected.
- Tap a folder to open it, then tap the bookmark to load it.
Touch and hold a bookmark instead of tapping it to see what else is available: open in a new tab, open in the background, copy the link, or delete the entry.
Create a New Bookmark Folder
Once the list runs past a screenful, a few well-named folders save you a lot of scrolling. You can create them right from the bookmarks sheet.
- Open the bookmarks sheet in Safari.
- Tap the back arrow at the top-left until you reach the root of the bookmarks list.
- Tap New Folder in the bottom-left corner.
- Type a name and tap .
New folders land at the bottom of the root list. Touch and hold any folder to drag it up or down once the icons start jiggling.
Rename, Move, or Edit a Bookmark
The old Edit-then-tap-the-minus-sign flow is gone. Now you touch and hold a bookmark to rename it, change its location, or fix the URL.
- Open the bookmarks sheet in Safari.
- Touch and hold the bookmark you want to change.
- Tap Edit in the pop-up menu.
- Update the name, address, or folder, then tap in the top right.
To move a bookmark without touching anything else, touch and hold it and pick Move from the menu instead.
Delete a Bookmark You No Longer Need
Dead links pile up faster than you expect, and they make the list harder to scan. Clearing them out keeps the bookmarks sheet useful, and the other things Safari remembers for you, like your saved Autofill addresses, are worth a cleanup pass now and then.
- Open Safari and bring up the bookmarks sheet.
- Touch and hold the bookmark you want to remove.
- Tap Delete in the pop-up menu.
- Tap again in the alert to confirm.
The bookmark disappears from this device and from every other Apple device signed in to the same iCloud account. Sync pushes the change everywhere within a few seconds.
Keep Bookmarks in Sync with iCloud
Safari bookmarks travel between your Apple devices on their own, as long as Safari is toggled on in iCloud settings. If a bookmark saved on your iPhone is missing from your Mac or another iPad, this toggle is the first thing to check.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the top, then choose iCloud.
- Tap See All (or Show All on older iOS builds) and pick Safari from the app list.
- Toggle on Sync this iPhone (or Sync this iPad).
The same Apple ID has to be signed in on every device where you want the bookmarks to appear. For the desktop side of this routine, our Safari bookmarks guide for Mac covers the macOS flow.
You’ll know sync is working when a page you save on your iPhone shows up on your iPad without any extra steps. Once the toggle is on, changes usually spread in under a minute over Wi-Fi.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the bookmarks icon in Safari on iPhone?
Apple calls it the Show Bookmarks button now. On a Start Page or new tab, it sits right under the address bar. If your address bar is set to Bottom or Top Tabs in Settings, touch and hold in the same spot to bring up the bookmarks sheet.
How do I bookmark a page in Safari without using Share?
Tap the Page Menu button in the address bar, the square icon that shows “Aa” and an ellipsis. Add Bookmark to and Add to Favorites are both listed there alongside the rest of the page tools.
Why are my Safari bookmarks missing?
The most common cause is iCloud sync being off. Open Settings, tap your name, choose iCloud, then confirm Safari is toggled on. If the toggle was already on, signing out of your Apple ID and signing back in can force a fresh sync.
Can I sort Safari bookmarks into folders on iPhone?
Yes. Open the bookmarks sheet, tap the back arrow until you reach the root list, tap New Folder, give it a name, then tap Done. When you save a new bookmark, the Add Bookmark to menu lets you drop it straight into any folder.
How do I add a Safari bookmark to my Home Screen?
Tap the Page Menu button in the address bar and choose Add to Home Screen. On iOS 26 and later, the page opens as a Web App by default. You can turn that off in Settings if you would rather have a plain bookmark icon.
That is the whole routine on iPhone and iPad: save a page, sort it into a folder, and let iCloud carry the change to your other devices.

What is the easiest way to arrange many different articles, from many different sources in Bookmarks?
You can create a folder structure within the Safari browser. Perhaps based on the bookmark categories like Tech, Cooking, News, etc. which could help you arranging and referring back easily.
