With a lot of fake news and content online, it’s tough to identify which news is original and authentic. Some of the fake news even spread like wildfire. Therefore, to help you identify the content creator and original news publishing media, the NewsGuard Rating was created.
The other day, I was browsing through the news website to have a recap of what is happening around the world. At that moment, I came across such news that we’re so ridiculous that they seemed unbelievable. On researching further, I discovered they were fake, and it was created only to entice the audience into reading them so that it goes viral.
NewsGuard Rating rates the news or websites based on various parameters like credibility—authenticity, authorship, trust, etc.
If the NewsGuard rating for a website lists low to poor or is marked as red, then it’s better to stay away from the site. Subsequently, this will safeguard the original and authentic news creator rather than promoting content created to gain popularity and money.
Enable NewsGuard Extensions
The NewsGuard chrome extension helps validate the authenticity and credibility of the source of information. You can enable the extension within Edge android and let it work in the background.
Here are the steps to enable the NewsGuard extension in Microsoft Edge for Android:
- Launch Microsoft Edge for the Android browser.
- Tap on the More
menu for options.
- Select the Settings menu from the options list.
- Scroll down to the News rating option, and tap on it.
- Enable the toggle button against the Display rating on the address bar with the option to turn it ON.
This will enable the NewGuard rating against each website and highlight the trusted and non-trusted sources of information online.
If you see any website with a Red NewsGuard shield, it’s good to stay away from it and not rely on the information it shares. It might be a fake news article. It is always recommended to visit the site rated in the Green shield.
Bottom Line: Edge Android NewsGuard Rating
The Edge Android’s NewsGuard rating extension helps identify fake news articles online. This also promotes credible news and informational sites.
After using the NewsGuard chrome extension, my perspective on reading news online changed utterly. Now, I only trust the sites with a Green rating in the NewsGuard rating list. It helps promote only authentic and original content.
Thanks to Edge Android for incorporating such a great feature into the mobile browser. This feature isn’t available in Chrome Android, which is meritable for Edge users. There is also another extension name Honey for Edge Android.
