Open private mode in Opera for Android to browse without saving any history, cookies, or form data locally. Great for logging into a second account or quickly looking something up privately.
Opera runs normal and private tabs side by side. Switch between them in the tab switcher without closing anything. Look for the mask icon to confirm you’re in private mode, then swipe away tabs when you’re done.
In this guide, I have shared written instruction about:
Access Private Mode on Opera Android
- Launch the Opera app on your Android phone or tablet.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the Tabs icon (it looks like a square with a number).
- Swipe left on the tab strip at the top to switch to Private Mode.
Once you’re in private mode, the tab switcher shows a mask icon. That’s your cue that Opera won’t save any local history, cookies, or form data from this session.
Open A New Tab in Opera Private Mode
- From the private tab view, tap the + button (the plus sign) to open a fresh private tab.
- Type any website address into the URL bar and go. The page loads without mixing with your normal tabs.
Close a Tab in Opera Private Mode
- Tap the Tabs icon at the bottom again.
- Find the private tab you want to close and swipe up to dismiss it. The tab disappears, and any local trace of that session is gone.
TIP: Even though browsing history is not saved locally in private mode, your ISP can still see the domains you visit on its network. Private mode only protects you from local tracking. It won’t hide your activity from your internet provider or the sites you visit.
Bottom Line
You’ll know it worked when you see the mask icon in the tab switcher. Your private tabs won’t appear in your regular history. Normal and private browsing run side by side, so you can switch between them without closing anything. Now fire up Opera and browse privately whenever you need to.
