Data privacy is officially a myth nowadays. With many data breaches and privacy invasions daily, we must take serious precautions to avoid this further. If you think you do not need a feature, tool, or website anymore, eliminate it.
Google Chrome is not extensively known for securing user privacy. It tracks our interactions and data, which is necessary to improve their product line (including google chrome) and the tools they offer for free.
People are very dubious these days. We find it difficult to trust someone or something completely. With so much happening on the internet, we should know how to secure our privacy. I am always looking for ways and means to do the same.
Perhaps the Google Chrome browser is built with several privacy and security settings. While most settings are enabled or blocked by default, you can always customize them as per your need and the nature of your work.
Enable Privacy and Security Settings
Google Chrome offers a few significant security and privacy settings. You can customize these options at the individual site level or for all the sites. You can enable and disable the services you think will be misused if permission is granted.
Here are the steps to enable the privacy and security settings in the chrome browser on a computer device:
- Launch Google Chrome on the Computer.
- Click on the More
menu for options.
- Select Settings from the list.
- Scroll down to the Privacy and security section.
- Now visit every menu within this section and customize it based on your needs.
The necessary chrome security settings are under the Site Settings menu and the More option. Just toggle the buttons to turn them OFF where you think it’s irrelevant or does not need those permissions.
And it’s recommended that you clear the data stored in browsing history, cookies, and cache storage of Google Chrome on the computer occasionally (at least once a month).
This will improve privacy and enhance your chrome browser’s security from theft. You can also control how to share the data and behavior with third-party trackers.
Bottom Line: Chrome Computer Privacy and Security
As mentioned, Google Chrome is not the best privacy browser out there. Perhaps browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari are better at handling privacy.
However, regarding security (alerts and messages), Google chrome identifies most phishing sites and insecure content. That makes it a good choice for an average user.
I have enabled the chrome security settings according to my needs, and it helps me stay away from phishing websites and malware content. At least I am secure about my privacy by this.
Similarly, you can also manage the privacy and security settings in the Chrome browser for Android. The options are minimal, but it works for most websites to alert security gaps.
What is the security feature of chrome that you like or dislike on the computer? Do you think any other feature that chrome should add?
