How to Navigate Forward and Backward in Safari iPhone/iPad

Apple Safari browser offers the option to navigate between the pages and forward and backward in the running session. We can tap the forward and backward arrow buttons on the navigation menu to navigate through the website. Alternatively, we can also use the browsing history to visit all pages.

Navigate Forward and Backward on Safari browser

We often get so involved in browsing that we go off-topic and forget why we opened the browser. It happens to me always, and I believe it happens to most of you.

However, when we are off-topic and go into the loop of clicking and navigating within hyperlinks, we can always visit the previous or next page with a tap.

The safari navigation is a handy feature that helps to navigate between pages that are often hyperlinked. We lose the original page if we keep browsing one page within the other.

Therefore, backward and forward navigation will help move between these pages. The safari navigation is beneficial when browsing through many pages at once.

Navigate Backward Page

Suppose you’ve navigated too many pages and missed reading or want to refer to any previous page.

In that case, you can quickly navigate backward using the Safari iPhone/iPad on-screen navigation button on your Safari browser. Here are the steps to navigate backward:

  1. Launch the Safari browser app on iOS/iPad.
  2. Open the Website URL on the device.
  3. Start navigating by clicking on the internal hyperlinks.
  4. Now tap on the < sign to navigate backward.

This will navigate back to the previous page on the Safari browser. You can continue tapping the button until it takes you to the first page where you started the session.

Navigate Forward Page

If you’ve navigated previous pages, you can, of course, navigate to the latest page. You can use the same navigation button on the Safari browser. Here are the steps to navigate forward:

  1. Launch the Safari app on iOS/iPad.
  2. Open the site URL on your device.
  3. Start navigating by clicking on the internal hyperlinks.
  4. Quickly navigate backward using the < sign on the Safari browser.
  5. Now, tap on the > sign to navigate forward in Safari.

It will navigate you to the next page from where you’ve moved back. If you haven’t navigated backward, the forward navigation button will be disabled. The safari navigation button thus works both ways: forward and backward.

Bottom Line

Safari navigation is a fantastic feature for people continually browsing the internet. I do prefer using a web browser over native mobile apps. I even browse Twitter, Instagram, and other social sites on a web browser instead of using the apps.

When browsing any website, researching any topic, or reading news feeds, I usually get lost in the hyperlinks and forget to read the main article thoroughly. That’s where the safari navigation helps me.

The users can also use the home button to reach the initial page without tapping the backward icon for longer.

Similarly, you can also navigate forward and backward on the Safari Mac computer.

What do you think of having these navigation options within the Safari iPhone browser? Isn’t it a helpful move within the pages?
