Send a Link to Chrome Devices from Your Android Phone

Chrome can hand off the page you're reading on your Android phone straight to another device signed in to the same Google account.

This guide shows the two ways to do it on Android: the Share menu route, plus the faster long-press shortcut that drops you straight into Send to your devices.

In this guide, I have covered:

Send a Link to Chrome Devices from Your Android Phone

You’re reading something on your phone and want to keep going on your laptop or tablet. Chrome can hand the page off for you. As long as both devices are signed in to the same Google account with sync turned on, the link lands on the other device in seconds.

There are two ways to send a link from Chrome on Android. The classic route is through the Share menu. A faster shortcut uses a long-press on the address bar or a tab in the tab switcher to jump straight to the Send to your devices list.

Before You Start

Make sure each device you’re sending between has Chrome installed and is signed in to the same Google account with sync enabled. If you haven’t done that yet, follow our Google Chrome sign-in and sync guide first.

Note: If you use multiple Google accounts as Chrome profiles, Send to your devices only delivers to the active profile.

Send a Link Through the Share Menu

This is the path Google’s official Send to your devices help article documents. It works on every recent build of Chrome for Android.

  1. Open Chrome on your Android phone and go to the page you want to send.
  2. Tap the More vertical 3-dots icon menu in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Share... from the list.
  4. In the Share sheet that opens, pick Send to your devices.
  5. Choose the device you want to open the page on. Every signed-in Chrome device on the same Google account appears here.

Tap the device name and a notification arrives on it within a few seconds. The destination page also keeps your scroll position and any text you had started typing into a form field. You can pick up exactly where you left off.

Send a Link Faster by Long-Pressing the Address Bar

If you share tabs often, this shortcut skips two steps. Long-pressing the address bar drops a Send to your devices option right into the context menu on Android.

  1. Open Chrome on Android and load the page you want to send.
  2. Long-press the address bar until the popup appears.
  3. Tap Send to your devices in the popup.
  4. Pick the destination device from the list.

You can do the same thing from the tab switcher. Open the tabs grid, long-press a tab card, and choose Send to your devices. Both shortcuts route through the same handoff pipeline, so the destination device behaves the same way.

What Happens on the Destination Device

Once you tap a device name, the receiving Chrome window shows a notification labeled “You have a new tab from your phone” (or similar wording on Android). Tap that notification and the page opens in a new tab on the destination browser.

On recent Chrome builds, scroll position and any partially filled form data come along too. The destination device opens the page in the same place, not at the top. If the destination device is asleep or offline when you send the link, the notification still arrives the moment it comes back online.

If Send to Your Devices Doesn’t Appear

When the option is missing from your Share sheet, run through this checklist before assuming the feature is gone.

  • Sign in to Chrome on every device. The Send to your devices entry only shows up on devices actively signed in to your Google account, with sync turned on.
  • Check Chrome is up to date. Older builds don’t always expose the option. See our guide to updating Chrome on Android if you need a refresher.
  • Restart Chrome on both devices. A force-close and reopen often refreshes the device list.
  • Try the long-press shortcut instead. On recent builds, the long-press path on the address bar or tab card works even when the Share sheet option is acting up.

Tip: Send to your devices requires a live internet connection on both the sending and receiving device. A weak signal on the destination device will delay the notification, but it will still arrive once the connection stabilizes. For sharing a page with someone outside your signed-in devices, use the regular Share option in Chrome for Android instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I see Send to your devices in the Share menu?

Make sure Chrome is signed in to the same Google account on the device you’re sending from and the device you’re sending to, with sync enabled. An outdated Chrome version can also hide the option, so update through the Play Store and restart the app.

Does the destination device need to be online?

It needs to be online at some point. The handoff is queued, so if the destination device is asleep or offline when you send the link, the notification arrives the next time it reconnects.

Does Send to your devices work with browsers other than Chrome?

No. The handoff only works between Chrome installs signed in to the same Google account. Edge, Firefox, Brave, and other browsers don’t accept Send to your devices handoffs on the receiving end.

Can I send a tab from Chrome on Android to my iPad?

Yes, as long as Chrome is installed on the iPad and signed in to the same Google account, and sync is on. See our iPhone and iPad version of this guide for the receiving-side walkthrough.

Will the destination page open where I left off on my phone?

On recent Chrome builds, yes. Scroll position and partially typed form fields are preserved, so the destination device opens the page in the same place instead of jumping to the top.
