Samsung Internet browser comes pre-installed on Samsung devices as a System app. Hence, it is difficult to uninstall or altogether remove it. In that case, we can force stop and turn off the Internet app.
Turning off the app will hide it from the App Drawer and make it no longer available for updates.
Note: Not all Samsung Phones allow uninstalling the Samsung Internet browser. In such a case, you can opt for the Disable option from the App and Notifications settings.
In this guide, I have shared written instruction about:
Method 1: Uninstall Samsung Browser from the App drawer
You can uninstall this app from the App Drawer or the All Apps list. Here are the steps to follow:
- Open the App Drawer or Library on your device.
- Find the Internet app and long-press to get a quick options menu.
- Select the
command. - Confirm your action, and it will remove that app.
It will immediately uninstall the Internet app from your Phone and recover the storage space occupied. It will save almost 300MB of storage space.
Method 2: Uninstall Samsung Internet from Settings
You can uninstall the app from the settings if you cannot uninstall it from the app drawer. Here are the steps to follow:
- Open the Settings app, scroll down, and tap on Apps.
It will display the list of All Apps. - Scroll down to Samsung Internet and tap to open its settings.
- Tap on the
command, and confirm your action.
It shall remove the Internet app from your device.
Method 3: Disable the Internet app on Samsung Phone
Note: If you’re disabling the Samsung Internet app, ensure that you change the default browser app on your Samsung Phone. If the Internet app is the default, then the phone will launch the links in this app that will reactivate it.
Not every Samsung Phone allows you to uninstall the Internet app. For example, the Galaxy S series adds the Samsung Internet as a System app that cannot usually be uninstalled.
However, we can disable the app to hide from the phone. Though the app will still be available on the phone, the launcher will be hidden from App Drawer. Here are the steps to disable and hide:
- Open the Settings app, scroll down, and tap on Apps.
It will display the list of All Apps. - Scroll down to Samsung Internet and tap to open its settings.
- Tap on the command, and confirm your action.
It will hide the Internet app from the phone, but the storage space will remain occupied. You should consider clearing the Samsung browser cache and site data before turning it off.
Reinstall: the Samsung Internet app
For some reason, if you changed your mind and want to install it back. You can search for the app in the Play Store and install it on your phone. Here is the Play Store link in case you need it.
Although the Internet app works on One UI devices and supports Android phones, it may not be supported on all phones. If you try, it may show that the app is incompatible; even sideloading APK won’t work.
Bottom Line
Getting rid of the Samsung Internet is a system app on Samsung smartphones. Hence, you cannot easily uninstall the app as you usually uninstall other apps.
A few premium phones, like the Galaxy S series, do not allow uninstallation; in such a case, you can turn off the app.
There are multiple web browser options on Android OS that you can install better than Internet App. Make sure to set the new browser app as the default one on Samsung devices.
Lastly, if you've any thoughts or feedback, then feel free to drop in below comment box. You can also report the outdated information.
I have a galaxy S 10 and cannot Uninstaller. Disbling it has no effect. it keeps opening on its own.
Hi Barry, after disabling Samsung Internet, did you change the default browser on your Samsung phone? If the default app is set to the same Samsung browser, then it will keep launch even after disable.
same! beyond frustrating! this just started happening after a recent update. I have installed malware removal, virus scans etc and this Samsung internet just keeps randomly opening up to ads. I want to cry!!!!
tried every one of your suggestions with no success. I do have an S-10+. You mention it can only be disabled but there is no option to disable it either.
Looks like the Samsung is forcing it users to use the S-Browser. However, you can simply ignore the browser and change the default browser to any other that you desired.
same issue can’t Uninstaller ot or disable it.
my S20 FE won’t let me Uninstall or disable it. what do you suggest?
Hello Doug, I understand your pain and many users are facing the same issue. You can change the default browser app to any of your desire and simply ignore the Internet browser.
doesn’t work . I can’t get rid of by any of the above. I cam disable and delete data, even remove all permissions it had but keeps popping up at times when opening a page link
Hi Chris, the Samsung Internet browser has become quite clingy and most of the users have reported the same problem. The solution that I can suggest is to simply ignore the Internet browser and switch the default browser app to anything else that you desired. There are plenty of Android browser that you can switch.
Thank You first. Please note…disabling the Samsung internet doesn’t work! It keeps opening on its own unexpectedly! Also, No business requiring document completion, etc, allows such completions using Samsung Internet! Thus, it’s useless and a great minority of browser users use it. Be done with it, and stop trying to be in your personal space. It’s bad enough Google is already doing so.
Did you force-stop it? It won’t open automatically unless you tap on the app. Also, make sure that you change the default browser app to something else on your Samsung mobile.
I have a 1500USD Note 20 Ultra and these cucksmokes won’t let me uninstall Samsung Internet. I have had ADP browser for years and for some reason the last update fucked everything. No uninstall feature.
These companies are really trash.
I dismayingly read through all the comments on this chain for the “popup tab ads on Samsung internet” problem on my S8 (can’t uninstall, clear cache and data does nothing, disable does not fix the pop-up tabs). Seems like the only one worth trying is this ADB product mentioned above. Has anyone successfully tried this?
I have a Samsung S9 and it won’t let me disable or uninstall. If I use chrome the Samsung internet goes crazy and pops up all these horoscope screens and the like .if I use duck duck. Is a little better but I’ll be on Facebook or doing something and the S internet just pops up and can’t get anything done ,it’s horrible. I’m not sure I can use that tool or not. Is there an easy way ?? Also if I clear data and casch and change options to nothing allowed . They come back
from location and phone .. I say no and it all comes back I uninstall updates to it .it comes back ugh !!! Thanks
Hi Craig, looks like your Samsung Internet (or S9) is infested with Malware. Did you install any app outside the play store?
Anyways, I’d recommend clearing the cookies cache of the Samsung Internet browser (which I see you’ve already done). If the issue persists, you need to format and reset the phone itself.
I am having same problem. It doesn’t matter what I attempt to do on my phone, the stupid horoscopes and constellations sites pop up. I spent hours on phone with Tech support and to no avail it’s still happening.
Uninstallsamsunginternet don’t want it on my phone can’t get rid of it it has my old email address and it screwes up my phone trying to get rid of old email address but it is stuck to your account Samsung needs to get rid of both
I will never buy a Samsung phone again unless they give us an option to uninstall!! This is not a threat just reality!!
You can uninstall any app from any phone with ADB. It seems daunting at first but it’s actually really easy to use.
